old son. We are glad you are here! Welcome! The Ski'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09986987106117325376noreply@blogger.comBlogger708125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832473971087119672.post-77279978536113923162012-06-02T18:13:00.001-07:002012-06-02T18:13:37.699-07:00To continue the blog.....or not to continue the blog? That is the question!Wow....it's been a really long time since I have posted!!!! Just contemplating if I should start the blog back up again. I am going to be quite honest....I haven't blogged because I have just posted pics on Facebook. It is an easy way for me to post....but I really have been thinking about starting blogging again. I like the photo journal for the kids, and would like them to have a look back at their life in pictures and journals through the blog. So, if you are reading this....and you would read the blog because you are generally interested....then let me know. That way, I will know if it is worthwile for me to start this whole process up again. Thanks, friends......and hopefully, I will write more real soon! The Ski'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09986987106117325376noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832473971087119672.post-24169736747554997382011-08-13T16:45:00.000-07:002011-08-13T16:45:08.054-07:00The Queen and the PrincessI'm not sure which is the queen and which is the princess....but I know one thing for sure. It has been WAY too long. I have found that I post a lot on Facebook because it is simply where a lot of our family goes to view pictures, but I want to get back into the swing of things here, and continue my "photo journey" of this kids through Blogger.

So, there is a lot to catch up on, and I will go back in time and dig out some pictures to share here later. I wanted to share though these current pictures from today of Reid's preschool graduation (May 2011).

I had a lot of mixed feelings about Reid going to preschool so young. He turned 3 in November 2010, and zapo-presto....preschool began. I felt with all the language that he would be exposed to and all the speech opportunities, I could not hold him home. Although, sending your little one at 3 yrs. with a backpack and supplies was more difficult that I thought it would be. I went back and forth several times in my mind really wondering if this was the best decision for Reid....and I definitely think that sending him was something that turned out to be wonderful. Reid seemed to bloom into this little person who needed the structure that was given to him in a preschool setting. He behaviors changed for the better, his attention span got better, his speech was being worked on constantly, and he has made friends who we hold very dear to our hearts. Without further introduction.....here is Reid's graduation day in pictures.

Reid with Makenna, his buddy. These two have come a long way together. I was grateful to find Mak's family after Reid was born. These two are bound by cleft, but their friendship is much deeper than that. Mak and Reid share the same surgeon and we are grateful that we live so very close to each other. We are traveling this journey together, and it will be so different to not see Mak in school next year with Reid. She is moving on to Kindergarten. We are so blessed to have Mak and her family in our lives, and Reid loves her like no other! This is really the first step in a 2 step process for Reid. We are doing this in preparation for a much more involved surgery 3 months post op the tonsil/adenoid repair. Our plastic surgeon wants to complete Reid's palate by lengthening it and completing the closure (there is still a small gap in the very back of Reid's mouth) this summer. In order for this to be done, our p/s wanted all material clear for him to get the best results possible. Therefore...step one will happen on March 18. The summer surgery will help with Reid's nasality issues and will help also in terms of speech progress. Reid's speech is really pretty amazing, and with this repair, it will help things along even more so. I don't worry too much about the March surgery, but I am concerned simply about Reid getting older and understanding more. I actually think it was easier to hand over my infant to our surgery team because I knew that Reid would not remember. Now that he is 3 and so observant about so many things, I have more fears. I just ask you to keep Reid close in thought as we get closer to our surgery date....We will continue to keep you posted as we again journey through this hand in hand.

The Ski'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09986987106117325376noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832473971087119672.post-90247647285641864272011-01-29T11:27:00.000-08:002011-01-29T11:38:19.082-08:00Angel Wings for Amy
A few posts ago, I apologized for my lack of posting, and explained about the tragedy of the Ward family that has been on my mind, heart, and soul. Well, another reason I had not posted was due to my heart being heavy at the loss of a friend, and co worker, Amy. Amy was a wonderful co-worker who I had the privilege to work with each day at school. She brought about joy, compassion, and a true spirit that is already missed terribly by our staff and students. During the 14 years that I have worked by her side, I also was lucky enough to develop a friendship with her. What a blessing that was. I am grateful for her love of Jesus Christ, and I rejoice knowing that I will see her again one day.

Besides her work with elementary school kids, she enjoyed "clowning" at various nursing homes or events to brighten the days of kids and the elderly. Every year when we would end a school calendar year, Amy would ask me, "So, do you think Ellie and Reid would like to have a visit from a clown?" Needless to say, "Clown Amy" was loved at our house, and we welcomed her in year after year. In fact, she even came over and agreed to clown for about 12 neighbor kids one day at our house. It was a big undertaking, and Amy gladly accepted, and we felt so blessed by her laugh, and her joyous spirit. My hear is saddened by the loss of my dear friend, but I also rejoice for her. I am sure heaven is a little bit brighter now that Amy is spreading her love there. Miss and love you, Amy. Until we meet again, my friend.....

The Ski'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09986987106117325376noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832473971087119672.post-28039788676081268102011-01-29T11:19:00.000-08:002011-01-29T11:23:01.179-08:00Not my talent... Ellie is a pretty wonderful artist in my mind. She drew this dog line-up the other day. Can you pick out the different breeds? Among them are a golden retriever, a yorkie, a weiner dog, a schnauzer, and a collie. For a 6 year old, I am more than impressed.....and she did not get any of this from her mom!

The Ski'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09986987106117325376noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832473971087119672.post-39142665342225542912011-01-29T11:04:00.000-08:002011-01-29T11:18:28.650-08:00Long time, no post...Thank you, my friends, who have come back to see if I have posted at all. It has been some time, hasn't it? Our lives have been so consumed lately that I have not taken the time to post anything, and for that, I am sorry. I do enjoy keeping you all "posted" on all the happenings in our lives, and I was just in a complete slump. Home life, school life, kids, and just plain ole' ordinary "stuff" has bogged me down. But one thing in particular has been heavy on my chest, and I have just not felt like posting.

Almost 2 weeks ago, a terrible tragedy happened. A car accident that took a small, innocent life. My sister in law's, brother's family was involved. To make a very long story short, this tragedy took the life of little Lewis Ward, 4 mos. His mom and sister were in grave condition until quite recently. Thankfully, Carrie, the mom and driver of the car that was hit, was released from the hospital this week. Her injuries are still severe (broken pelvis, broken back, lung injury, internal bleeding), but she wanted to be near her 4 year old daughter's side who was in a nearby Children's hopsital in critical condition. Her injuries are still very severe and your prayers are appreciated. She is in an induced coma at this time, yet, and her brian to skull pressure is an issue that they are trying to get resolved. She is a very injured little girl, and I ask that you pray for little Libby. Not in the vehicle were Matthew, the dad, and Lincoln, their 2 year old. I ask for prayer for them as well, and they prepare to deal with the loss of their son and brother, and try to manage the everyday "stuff" that will all seem so different now. My heart and mind have been completely consumed and just worried for so many dimensions for this beautiful family. So, I apologize for the lack of posts, and I ask you to please pray for the Ward family tonight. I know that it has made me squeeze my own loved ones just a tad bit tighter......I thank you.

The car that Carrie, Libby, and Lewis were in.
Carrie and Lewis, age 4 mos.

Libby (and Lincoln)

The Ski'shttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09986987106117325376noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4832473971087119672.post-89245480987863809912010-12-30T12:45:00.000-08:002010-12-30T12:52:34.260-08:00Beauty DayMy little Ellie loves to be all made up. So, today we deemed the afternoon beauty day while Reid napped. We did make up and played beauty salon. She was loving every minute of it. She also wanted curly hair (which she asks for frequently). Her hair is so stick straight that it doesn't always do what she wants it to. So, with a little online advice, we went into the bathroom to have at it. And here is what happened....

I curled all her hair up and then pinned each strand that I curled. We have not had Christmas with my mom and brother yet, but that is to come. My mom has been really sick for a long time and hopefully sooner than later, she will be feeling up to par and we can go enjoy another family gathering. We love them.

Speaking of family, my brother in law, Aaron, came from Rhode Island for a great visit. We were hoping that we would get to keep him here with us because of the huge snowstorm in the east. Unfortunately, he did have to leave us this week, however. His girlfriend, Christina, was with her family in North Carolina, but was sweet enough to remember Ellie and Reid. She sent gifts which the kids were thrilled with.....but truly I think they would have enjoyed Christmas a lot more if she could have been with us instead of gifts. Maybe next year! Ellie got a cute baking gift set along with other gifts as well, but we thought we would give this one a try. Reid was napping nicely one afternoon, and it gave Ellie and I perfect baking time! Ellie has been putting cotton balls on Santa's beard since the first day of December to count down the days until Christmas. We are officially into the REALLY exciting stage because Uncle Aaron is home and presents from far away family members are coming in the mail. I think this Christmas will be very fun for the kids because of their ages. They are both so excited.

It has also been nice doing special things along the way to show the kids what Christmas is really about. Getting gifts for kids who are in need was a really special event this year because Ellie really gets that now. I loved seeing how happy she was to give to others.

We hope the true meaning of Christmas shines brightly at your house this year. Merry Christmas!

Aunt Holly sent gifts in the mail from Florida, and as you can see, Ellie was in shock that Aunt Holly sent accessories for her Zhu Zhu pet that were just perfect!

Ellie all dressed up for her holiday music program at school. Now don't get me wrong....we celebrate the TRUE meaning of Christmas at our house. We love celebrating Christ's birth. It is the focus of our holiday. But when celebrating, Ellie likes to show her true spirit....which is.....

PINK and girly. I had issues with sending him. Not because I didn't want him to go, or because I thought the program would not be good for him. Actually, just the opposite. I think that the structure and daily routine is good for him, and I think that having him go into the program that he is in is wonderful. It is a gift to Reid, for sure. Reid qualified to go because of speech issues. He really speaks quite well, and I am so proud of how far he has come. He tries to say anything you ask him to say, and usually with little difficulty. He does have lacking sounds and some nasality issues, but all in all, we are blessed by what his speech teachers have been able to accomplish with him so far.

Reid had an IEP written for him in the areas of speech and language development, and was able to go to a wonderful preschool program with speech services weekly targeted for his IEP goals. What a gift. And even more so, he can go for this year and the next two....with no cost. What a blessing. And my issues, you ask? He is my baby. Yes, he is stubborn and so strong-willed, but he is just 3, and he seems so little yet.

My mom was able to go to a Thanksgiving celebration in his class last week, and she was able to report that Reid was able to listen to directions, follow along, participate in a class "play" and even walked up to the microphone and clearly state, "I'm thankful for my family." Mom had wonderful things to report to me, and said that he just looked at home there. My heart is relieved. She took some pictures, and I wanted to share. Now, keep in mind, in his class are 3, 4, and 5 year olds. It's funny to see him as the "little one" because he is so big....but I think he is in good hands, and I think we are blessed to have him in this program.

Reid's class. Anyone who can take 96 pictures of Reid and have me stumped for an hour on which pose is the best should be commended. They were on time, efficient, clean, and took absolutely wonderful pictures of the kids. Seriously....96 pictures. I wanted to post just a few that I thought were super cute. Don't look too close.....you may be getting some in your Christmas envelopes before you know it! See what you think!

Reid did not want to lay down for this shot. We had to bribe him and told him he could ride on the fire truck prop if he cooperated. That's all it took!
I wasn't even going to get Ellie's picture taken since she had school pictures that just came home. But, since we were there....might as well, right? I was glad I did.

I got this picture for one reason. My dad. He always loved Ellie's lashes. When I saw this picture of her looking down, showing off those beautiful lashes, I had to smile. I can hear my dad saying, "Ellie, where are your eyelashes? Too bad you don't have any..." So, this one is for you, Dad.

I am so glad my kids love books.
